Short description of the field of work of the body:

The office performs duties related to the following topics:

- making and implementing state policy concerning Slovenes abroad;

- autochthonous Slovene national community in neighbouring countries;

- Slovene guest workers and emigrants around the world;

- cultural, educational, economic, political and other type of collaboration of members of autochthonous Slovene national community in neighbouring countries and Slovenes around the world with the homeland, the Republic of Slovenia;

- care by the homeland, the Republic of Slovenia, for relevant legal and legislative protection of Slovene communities outside the borders of the Republic of Slovenia;

- provision of financial funds to organizations and activities by Slovenes outside the Republic of Slovenia;

- provision of financial funds to civil society organizations and to individuals in the Republic of Slovenia active in the field of collaboration with Slovenes in neighbouring countries and around the world and audit of public funds in these organizations

- informing, consulting and assistance to individuals and organizations of Slovenes outside the Republic of Slovenia;

- care for repatriation of Slovenes into the homeland;

- assistance in acquisition of Slovene without Slovene citizenship;

- performance of other tasks related to special legal-statutory issues of autochthonous Slovene national community in neighbouring countries and Slovene emigrants and guest workers in the Republic of Slovenia.
