Minister for Slovenians Abroad Gorazd Žmavc visits Pošta Slovenije

MARIBOR, 16 May 2017 - Minister for Slovenians Abroad Gorazd Žmavc and his aides visited this morning the seat of Pošta Slovenije in Maribor to meet the management, which is led by director general Boris Novak, as Pošta Slovenije is planning to issue in November the first postage stamp from a new series dedicated to Slovenians living around the world, termed Slovenians Around the World. The first stamp will be dedicated to Slovenians in Argentina. The management briefed Minister Žmavc on the details of the new series, as well as briefly on the company in general.

The Slovenians Around the World series has also been backed by the Office of the Republic of Slovenia for Slovenians Abroad. The majority of Slovenian diaspora live in Argentina, Canada, Australia, the US and Germany. The postage stamp dedicated to Slovenians in Argentina will be issued on 10 November.

Pošta Slovenije moreover continues to work on joint issues of postage stamps with foreign postal companies. The company has already invited the Argentinian postal company to jointly issue a postage stamp in 2018, while the image to be put on the stamp is yet to be decided upon.

Pošta Slovenije is connecting the digital and material worlds, but at the same time remains true to tradition, which also includes postage stamps. Since Slovenian independence in 1991, it has issued already around 1,200 postage stamps. Despite the geographical distance and cultural diversity between them, Slovenia and Argentina have close links, and the issuing of postage stamps is an excellent opportunity to promote both postage stamps and natural beauties of the two countries.
