Minister Žekš visits Split, Croatia, 20 February 2009
On February 20, 2009, the Minister for Slovenes outside the Republic of Slovenia, Mr. Žekš, will visit Split and participate at the celebration organized by the Slovene Society “Triglav” to celebrate the Slovene Cultural Day. The Society is the biggest and the oldest Slovene Society in Dalmatia; it has been active in preserving Slovene culture, language and identity ever since 1992.
The Minister’s visit will thus pay a tribute to Slovenes living in Split and show acknowledgement for their efforts. In spite of being active for so long, the appropriate club facilities are still an issue, and the Minister Žekš will use this opportunity to visit the society’s premises and discuss the possibilities for the eventual support by the Republic of Slovenia in solving this issue.
The Minister will be accompanied by Mr. Merljak, in charge of the department for the follow up of the status of Slovenes living outside the Republic of Slovenia.
